The Guild

Profile

Description:

The Guild is a secretive and formidable bounty hunter organization built on an unusual foundation compared to most mercenary groups.

At its core, the Guild was originally established as a refuge for orphans, runaways, and the abandoned—a place where anyone could find a home regardless of race, origin, or past crimes. Within its walls, there were no racial distinctions and no inherited privilege. Every member was treated as equal, judged only by effort, discipline, and the will to survive in a harsh world. From this philosophy, the Guild grew into a network of seasoned bounty hunters, mercenaries, and trackers who took on dangerous contracts ranging from fugitives to high-value threats.

The Guild operated under a strict internal code of honor, summed up in a simple phrase: “This is the Way.” It bound its members to loyalty, contract integrity, and mutual survival. For a long time, it held the organization together.

The Fall of Cad Bane

That stability ended with the death of its long-standing leader, Cad Bane.

His downfall was not the result of internal betrayal alone, but the intervention of an unknown force known only as The Deam. Whatever this entity was, its actions destabilized the Guild’s leadership and left a vacuum at its core. With no clear successor, internal factions began to fracture, and the Guild stood on the edge of collapse.

The Veilyth Twins Takeover

From the Underdark emerged a pair of Drow twins known as the Veilyth Twins, already operating through a hidden network of influence called the Black Concord.

The Concord was not a guild or army, but a system of control—an interconnected web of operatives, contracts, and leveraged assets bound by coercion and design rather than loyalty.

The Veilyth did not save the Guild.

They took it.

Using the chaos following Cad Bane’s death, they absorbed the fractured organization and rebuilt it into something far more structured and predatory. The Guild’s outward purpose remained intact—hunting fugitives, monsters, and high-value targets—but its internal philosophy was rewritten.

The New Guild

The orphaned and abandoned are still taken in, but no longer as equals. They are trained, directed, and deployed as tools within a controlled system. Contracts extend beyond traditional bounty work into coerced agreements, arena combat arrangements, and engineered conflicts designed to generate wealth and influence for the new leadership.

The Guild’s base of operations remains Frosthold Keep, a weather-worn ruin in the frozen north perched atop a jagged cliff. What was once a refuge of equals is now a structured hierarchy under silent observation.

Among its most feared instruments are the Veiled Eight—masked enforcers who act as the Guild’s execution arm. They respond to threats with coordinated precision and eliminate resistance with methodical efficiency, ensuring order is maintained not through trust, but through consequence.

The Code

The old code still exists, and the phrase “This is the Way” is still spoken within Frosthold Keep.

But its meaning has changed.

It no longer represents mutual honor among hunters—it represents compliance within a controlled system. Loyalty is no longer assumed. It is enforced.

Inside Frosthold Keep, bounty hunters still gather, exchange information, and prepare for missions—but always under the quiet awareness that they operate within a structure designed and overseen by forces they rarely see directly.

The Guild no longer simply hunts targets for survival or profit.

It executes order.

And that order is shaped by the will of the Veilyth Twins, through the unseen doctrine of the Black Concord, enforced without hesitation by the Veiled Eight.

And those who forget that distinction do not remain Guild members for long.
