Dr. Dr. Jarvis
1. Description
1.1. Appearance
Dr. Dr. Jarvis is a wiry, eccentric man with wild, unkempt hair streaked with grey and a pair of thick, round spectacles perched perpetually on his nose. His lab coat is stained with mysterious substances, and his pockets bulge with odd contraptions, gears, and vials. His hands are always in motion—twitching, tinkering, or sketching new designs on scraps of parchment. A faint scent of ozone and alchemical reagents lingers around him, and his eyes gleam with manic intelligence.
1.2. Personality
Jarvis is the archetype of the mad scientist: brilliant, unpredictable, and utterly obsessed with discovery and control. His genius is matched only by his disregard for morality and the well-being of others. He is manipulative, cunning, and delights in bending others to his will—whether through invention, influence, or direct experimentation. Jarvis is quick-witted and prone to rambling monologues, often losing himself in the grandeur of his own schemes. He sees people as tools or test subjects, and his loyalty is only to his own vision of progress.
2. Biography
2.1. Background
Once a respected scientist from Oribos, Dr. Dr. Jarvis’s career took a dark turn when he embraced the militarization of his inventions. Alongside his former colleague Thereon Aelnor, he pioneered the creation of the Warforged—sentient machines originally designed for protection. However, Jarvis’s ambitions shifted toward conquest and control, leading to a split with Thereon and his eventual departure from Oribos.
Jarvis found a new home in Springwater, where he became the trusted advisor to King Arcturus XIII. Following the tragic murder of the king’s daughter, Jarvis manipulated the grieving monarch, accusing Lord Strahd von Zarovich and fueling a campaign of vengeance. Under Jarvis’s influence, the king became increasingly isolated and cold, while Jarvis himself took control of the kingdom’s affairs, dissolving guilds, hunting dissenters, and equipping the City Watch with his mechanical inventions.
Jarvis’s true ambitions were revealed when the adventuring party confronted him in his laboratory. There, they discovered his horrific experiments on Emberon Dragonheart, whom he had transformed using draconic blood and alchemical procedures. Jarvis had also imprisoned the ancient red dragon Elyndra beneath his lab, draining her blood for further experiments and power. His actions directly opposed the party, leading to a violent confrontation in which he was defeated and briefly killed, only to be revived by the group for questioning.
Jarvis’s schemes and cruelty cemented his role as a major antagonist to the party, and his legacy of suffering and manipulation left a lasting scar on both Springwater and the wider world.
