2. Biography
2.1. Background
Strahd was once a high-ranking knight and warrior of the kingdom of Lemuria and a subordinate of the then King of Springwater, which was many centuries ago. Lemuria and Barovia were at war, and Strahd was sent with his army to Barovia to conquer the land. After succeeding, he was declared the ruler of Barovia. Both kingdoms enjoyed prosperity, abundant resources, and riches.
One day, a cloaked figure entered the castle with the command to be admitted. Due to a seal on the cloak, Strahd recognized that the cloaked person was from Springwater. When entry was denied, a battle ensued. With a powerful spell, the cloaked figure put everyone into a deep sleep. After more than a month, they awoke to find a magical object placed in the castle’s cellar: a magical crystal on a stone altar. Every attempt to touch the crystal failed. Furthermore, it became evident that Strahd was no longer a normal elf but had become a vampire—the first of his kind. Additionally, his great love, Tatyana, had been kidnapped.
With his new powers and unquenchable rage, Strahd assembled an army of undead, werewolves, trolls, and other creatures who had been shunned and ostracized by the “normal” world. A centuries-long war broke out between Barovia and the neighboring kingdoms until one day, Strahd was sealed in a magical vessel, then a vase, by the powerful mage Alatar. This was only possible because Rahadin, Strahd’s right hand, had betrayed him.
Exactly 100 years after his sealing, Strahd escaped from his prison and began anew, building a massive army to finally exact his revenge.

4. Appearances
- Chapter 1 - So it Begins, Encounter with Rahadin: The group learned of an abandoned ruin of a church battlemap omitted where the abducted children were believed to be held. After luring away the ogres guarding the area, they discovered a secret underground cave battlemap omitted beneath the ruins. There, they encountered Rahadin, a powerful vampire and former right-hand of Lord Strahd von Zarovich himself. With ruthless determination, they defeated Rahadin and rescued the children. Additionally, Rahadin’s servant, Pidlwick II, chose to accompany them. They returned a defeated werewolf named Halfdan to Waterdeep, where he was healed by the local priest. Halfdan and his wife Frieda pledged their allegiance to the group in gratitude.
- Chapter 4 - The new Menace, The Security Council: During the assembly, the group learns that the powerful and evil Vampirelord Strahd von Zarovich has returned and is residing in his fortress, Ravenloft. To defeat him, they must seal him away and therefore need an artifact powerful enough to contain Strahd’s immense power. Pumat Sol gives the party a map that leads them to the temple of the Ravenqueen, which might hides an artefact inside.
- Chapter 6 - Welcome to Barovia, Castle Ravenloft: During the main dinner, the group heard the full story from Strahd´s perspective and gained information about a Magical Crystal in the castle’s catacombs. When FEND touched the crystal, he had a horrific Vision of a massive purple dragon laying waste to an entire kingdom. At the end, Rictavio unexpectedly appeared and attempted to attack Strahd. The group then faced a critical decision about which side to support.
- Chapter 7 - The Goblin Cartel, The Goblin Heist: The group is planning a heist on the goblins who supply weapons to Strahd. They prepare a diversion in the field camp, and as chaos spreads, they strike a bit further away, in the middle of the night. They defeat the leader of the goblin squad and “enslave” the two weaker goblins, Sproggie and Krunk. At the same moment they blow up the Steam_Armor.png, they notice someone watching them. Twenty feet from the scene stands a carriage pulled by an old donkey, with a mage staring at them in shock. An awkward silence ensues, and out of sheer fear, the mage, named Hans Dietrich, joins the group.
- Chapter 9 - The Beginning of the End, The Assassination Attempt: After successfully escaping with the dragon’s gold, the Deam celebrated late into the night in The Davern, reveling in their victory. As everyone finally settled to sleep, they were suddenly attacked. FEND was alerted at the last moment by Uzgamon, the Devil in his eye. A young-looking woman had sneaked into Davern and was now attacking the group. They immediately recognized her as Tatyana, the wife of Strahd von Zarovich, who was abducted from him during their wedding. However, she seemed to be out of her senses, her eyes faintly glowing purple, and her expression distant.
- Chapter 12 - The Final Battle, The Night Before the Battle: With this realization, the Deam could finally solve the great mystery and expose the true enemy. The brand mark matched exactly the symbol of the magic shop of Pumat Sol, The Arcane Eye. This revealed that Pumat Sol — Zephyr Solvyrth — had been behind everything from the very beginning. He was the one who turned Strahd von Zarovich into a vampire and kidnapped Tatyana. At the same time, he planted clues to incriminate Lemuria and ignite the conflict between Barovia and Lemuria.
