The Assassination Attempt
After successfully escaping with the dragon’s gold, the Deam celebrated late into the night in The Davern, reveling in their victory. As everyone finally settled to sleep, they were suddenly attacked. FEND was alerted at the last moment by Uzgamon, the Devil in his eye. A young-looking woman had sneaked into Davern and was now attacking the group. They immediately recognized her as Tatyana, the wife of Strahd von Zarovich, who was abducted from him during their wedding. However, she seemed to be out of her senses, her eyes faintly glowing purple, and her expression distant.
Initially, the fight did not go well for the Deam. Uzgamon offered FEND his powers, with the condition that FEND would commit to helping him on a mission in return. At first hesitant, FEND agreed to the deal to gain the upper hand against Tatyana, signing the contract. With his newfound powers, they eventually defeated Tatyana and bound her.
It turned out she was under a powerful spell that could only be broken by the caster or upon their death. Armed with this information, they set out to consult Lady Laeral, but before they reached her, they encountered a familiar face. Oathliz, the Dragonborn Paladin from Springwater, was in conversation with three huge orcs. He greeted the group and invited them to join him on an important mission. It emerged that these orcs belonged to the clan responsible for plundering and destroying Kahani’s people.
The Sewers of Waterdeep
Joined by the orcs and Oathliz, the group was tasked with investigating the sewers of Waterdeep. Since the death of Artor Morlin, the balance down there had been disrupted. The Zhentarim had apparently been driven out, and someone new now held sway. Incidents of people disappearing into the sewers had become frequent and needed to be stopped.
Upon entering the sewers, Kahani prepared an ambush against the orcs, which was foiled by his own group. Disheartened, Kahani separated from the group and sought out the last safehouse of the Zhentarim above the sewers, where he met Belwrick Grimwall. From him, Kahani learned that the Zhentarim had been completely expelled from Waterdeep, with Belwrick being the sole remaining member.
Meanwhile, the group discovered a hidden door in the sewers, not marked on any maps. Upon opening it, a massive explosion occurred, instantly pulverizing two of the three orcs and severely injuring the third.
First Encounter with Zephyr Solvyrth
The Deam, along with Rukar Emberfist and Oathliz, venture into the dungeon hidden behind the sealed door in the sewers. In the meantime, Kahani is stealthily infiltrating the Palace of Waterdeep and finds interesting documents in Lady Laeral’s office that deal with the shipment of the City-Watch warforged from Springwater to Waterdeep for the upcoming war.
Their first challenge is two Illusory Dragons guarding the gateway that attack the party. With a successful investigation check, they uncover the illusion and pass through. The second challenge presents itself as another gateway resembling a portal. After solving the riddle, the portal vanishes, allowing them to continue.
Climbing down a hole, they enter a large cave where they spot Zephyr Solvyrth, the enemy mage, guarding the third purple crystal. They launch a surprise attack, and an intense battle ensues. In the end, the Deam is victorious, but not without losses. Rukar Emberfist got executed by Franziskus in the end and Jastor Gallywix looted a Gold Pouch made out of lizard-leather from him, which leads the party on the path of revenge and free the other lizardfolks. Also, Oathliz dies during the combat and becomes a zombie-Paladin that has to be taken down, and Hans Dietrich is afflicted by Feeblemind, leaving him in a state akin to a mindless mushroom-like being which forces him to leave the Deam for now. Fortunately, upon their return to the Davern, a new member was quick to stand ready. They met Zephir Voidblade, a Githyanki Fighter determined to vanquish evil in the world and uphold righteousness at any cost.
Tell Us the Truth!
Upon returning to Davern, the group decides to contact Lady Laeral to confront her about the crystal. However, before doing so, they encounter Emberon Dragonheart, Percival´s cousin, who arrogantly boasts about his new top-secret mission. After a brief exchange, Emberon departs, and the Deam speaks with Lady Laeral in her palace office. There, they gather more information about the upcoming battle and King Arcturus XVI of Springwater.
Their next objective is to travel to Springwater to meet the king himself and uncover who is truly pulling the strings behind the scenes.
